By Chubb Nice

Back in the winter of 2005 / 2006 I went down to Morocco to try and score some waves. I flew into Agadir in early December with a flight out in late March. The first month or so I did the standard Taghazout thing which was cool but crowded and the surf wasn't that great. Luckily I'd meet these two Australians Dazza & Yaren who were interested in trying to score Safi point & looking for less crowded waves further north around the Essaouira area. They went off on there misson & a couple days later I decided to hit the road and go and find them, this is when my surf trip proper started.

I took a bus & then hitched a lift to a small coastal village called Sidi Kaouki, coming in I seemed to be welcomed by the whole village and got to stay in an insane old school mini palace. On asking about the ozzy lads a couple of the village groms had chatting to them early in the morning when they got off the bus from Essaouira before wondering off into the Cap Sim peninsula with there boards.

Sure enough the following morning the groms had caught up with Dazza & Yaren and they popped into the palace when I was eating my royal morning breakfast. I hooked the boys up with some food & they said to grab my board & suit.

We walked for around an hour following the coast until we got to the end of the point where we were greeted by perfect 3 to 4 foot down the line peelers with no one around. The end of the point was a really magical area with all types of wild life walking around and a big cave to chill out in. We decided that we needed to camp in the cave rather then walk the 2 hours every day to get there as this place was legit and completely uncrowded.

That night I went into Essaouira with the boys to get stock and the next morning we hiked back to the cave which would be are home for the next few weeks. It was about this time when the swell started to pump & we scored sick waves every day ranging from 3 feet to 8 to 10 feet bombs. During the time we were there only a handful of people visited, one was a Moroccan traditional traveler who helped us catch fish and the other was a local professional wind surfer who also surfed. The vibes where cool & we had a blast out there living the cave life.

When the swell dropped we headed back to town for some well earned beers & BBQ & to plan are next step up the road to hopefully score one of the world's best right hand points – Safi.

I went back to the cave around 10 years later & there was now a road down to the Surf spot, I drove as far as I wanted to test the hire car & walked for maybe 5 minutes to find 3 or 4 four wheel drive surf camp vans parked up and the cave spot zoo'ed with some old frenchman shouting at people in the line up. I turned around & walked back to the car with out Surfing, thinking about how lucky we were to have it to our selfs ten years prior.

The friendship & connection between the Woolacombe crew & A tight knit group of legendary New York underground DJ’s began with a mix tape or mix CD as happened to be.
